The annual Hindu almanac my grandfather began in Solan, read in households across the country for more than eighty years.
The Shri Vishwavijay Panchang was founded more than eighty years ago by Pandit Hardev Sharma Trivedi, Jyotishacharya of Solan. It is published to this day by Jyotishmati Niketan, the family house he established.
The Panchang is edited today by Pandit Sudhakar Sharma Trivedi. He carries the almanac forward, and holds it to the standard on which it was founded. I have worked alongside him as its Assistant Editor for the past sixteen years.
A panchang is the Hindu almanac, the daily reckoning of time by which festivals, fasts, and auspicious moments are observed. Ours is known for clear, large tables and for calculations that are carefully checked.
Everything a household, a priest, or a student of astrology needs for the year, in one volume.
Tithi, nakshatra, yoga, karan, and sunrise and sunset for every day, in clear fortnight-by-fortnight tables.
The full calendar of religious festivals, vrats, and observances through the year.
Solar and lunar eclipses, planetary transits, and retrograde cycles for the year.
Chosen times for marriage, housewarming, travel, and other important beginnings.
An extended section on the Sarvatobhadra Chakra, with the annual motion and direction of each planet.
The yearly outlook for gold, silver, grains, pulses, oilseeds, cotton, and more.
Over its long history the Panchang has been blessed by revered saints, among them Devraha Baba, Shripad Baba, and Karshni Swami Shri Guru Sharananand Maharaj. Editions have been formally received by Presidents and Prime Ministers of India, and by Governors and Chief Ministers of the states.
We hold that history lightly. It is a reminder of the standard the Panchang is expected to keep, and the reason every edition is prepared with the same care.
The Panchang is available on Amazon India and through Bookkish India. You can also order directly from us, including bulk orders for temples, bookshops, and institutions.
